 This post will provide you the curriculum of the course along with a brief on the faculties.




Tripura Kashyap 


Curriculum:

CMT -Theory & Practice -

The module offers theoretical frameworks alongside experiential activities and experiences from CMT. This segment will include the definition, evolution, principles, objectives and approaches in CMT used with groups & in individual clients. This segment will also focus on the work of pioneer dance therapists, therapeutic potential in Indian physical traditions and various influences that impacted the development of dance therapy. Students will be trained in facilitation skills, pre-requisites and logistics of structuring sessions, verbal reflection, scope and application of CMT. Class and home assignments will be given to gain a better understanding of the diverse methods and perspectives that CMT offers.

Bio-profile:



Tripura pioneered Creative Movement Therapy in India in 1990. She studied Dance therapy at Hancock Centre, Wisconsin, USA and subsequently obtained her M.A. in Psychology. She received training in classical dance at Kalakshetra, (Chennai), Jazz, Ballet, Modern dance, choreography and dance theatre at the American Dance Festival, N. Carolina. Tripura received fellowships from Ashoka International Foundation and Indian Ministry of Culture for her innovative work in dance therapy and contemporary dance.

She authored “My Body, My Wisdom” published by Penguin. She was founder-director of Apoorva Dance Theatre,

Bangalore and worked collaboratively with filmmakers, visual artists and musicians on cross-art projects and performances. Tripura also worked as a projects coordinator for Bhoomika dance Company (Delhi) and creative consultant for ‘Dance-in-Education’ program at Attakkalari Center (Bangalore). She conceived India's first Movement therapy course in Delhi and is on the teaching faculty of dance and arts therapies courses in Pune and Bangalore. Tripura is currently the co-founder of (CMTAI) Creative Movement therapy association of India. ( www.cmtai.org)





Anshuma Kshetrapal

Curriculum:

CMT - Facilitation, tools and techniques -

This module will start with facilitating the understanding of boundaries and ethical practice, then move on to explain the relationship between CMT and different schools of psychology. The segment also includes discussions around the difference between therapeutic art and art therapy, the mind body nexus and creating the therapeutic setting. In the second term, the module develops to include group dynamics, working with adults, scope of CMT and the use of the tools of the use of touch, sound, non-verbal work. The module ends with discussions and activities around developing a unique, reflexive therapeutic presence as well as assessments of facilitation skills.


Bio profile:


Anshuma is a practicing Drama, Movement and Art Psychotherapist. She is also an advisory board member for CMTAI and is teaching and designing curriculum in their Delhi, Bangalore and Pune courses. Having over 8 years of experience as a trauma counselor, Anshuma has worked with adults and children, in the field of mental health with a range of settings such as hospitals, NGOs, schools and corporates in Delhi, Bangalore and London. She recently organized and completed a pan India tour in which she gave several talks and experiential workshops along with her colleagues from the UK throughout the country.

Currently, her service offerings include, individual and group drama and movement therapy, supervision for junior creative arts therapists and conducting workshops along with teaching. In her endeavour to spread awareness about the use of the arts for therapy, she founded The Color of Grey Cells, to conduct workshops for students, therapists and clients alike because she is passionate about spreading the word about working with the mind and body nexus, using stories, poetry, movement, role playing and visual arts.





Tarana Khatri:


Curriculum:

Dance/Movement Therapy with Special Needs Population -

This segment aims to help trainees gain a theoretical understanding of various difficulties in children as well as the methods and techniques of using the body and its movement with them. The areas that will be covered include Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Learning difficulties and Multiple sclerosis. The session will cover theoretical foundation of the disorders and their effect on one’s body and movement repertoire. It will also look at different theories and interventions of Dance/Movement Psychotherapy and its efficiency within these populations. The session will also focus on basic principles of working with these populations like determining therapeutic goals, establishing boundaries and recording session notes.


Bio profile:

Tarana Khatri is a registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist with ADMP (UK). She received her licence on completing her Msc Dance Movement Psychotherapy course in Scotland. She has also completed an Msc in Counselling Psychology. Tarana cofounded Synchrony (www.synchronyindia.com) in 2014, an organization that aims to spread awareness on importance and effectiveness of Dance Movement Therapy. She has also started Horizon Therapy Centre (www.horizontherapycentre.com) in 2016, which provides creative arts therapy, counselling and behavior modification. She is on the panel of trainers teaching the CMTAI Creative Movement Therapy Program. 
Her work in DMP is influenced by her dance training. She received her dance training at Academy of Modern Dance (Chennai) and received certification under Commonwealth Society for Teachers of Dancing (Jazz ,ballet and contemporary) and United Kingdom Alliance (hip-hop). Tarana has 5 years’ experience working, as a DMP, with individuals and groups of varied population including Children and adults with behavioral and emotional difficulties, adults in a forensic setting, Parent- child dyads as well as geriatric population. However, her primary work is that with children and young adults.



Tanvi Bajaj:

Curriculum:

Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and Movement Notation

This approach emphasizes on understanding body, movement and space along with their deep interconnections. Focusing on both, macro movements and subtle movements like breathing, this work helps in breaking down the body in motion and revisiting the basics of movements. The session would focus on observing movements as they occur in their natural habitat. Once the eye is trained to catch movement specifics, inferring from body becomes clearer and more valid. This knowledge of movement habits and preferences, enhances the movement potential as well as presents glimpses of inclinations linking it to attitudinal choices and personality indicators.


Bio profile


Tanvi has a Masters in Applied Psychology and Laban Movement Analysis from New York. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and a dance therapy trainer. Tanvi uses her background in dance and psychology, combined with her training in the work of movement analysis, to create sessions that lead the participants into a journey of knowing and owning their body. Tanvi has authored several papers, including a book titled ‘Therapeutic

Implications of Performing Arts’ published by Routledge in 2013. At present, she is working with children of K-5, using creative movement to enhance life skills.






Brinda Jacob

Curriculum:

Experiential Sessions: Arts Therapy and Authentic Movement

These sessions have been designed to give participants an opportunity to look inwards within a safe space and to experience wearing the ‘client hat’. Exploring authentic movement practises, body work and the expressive art expressions, the facilitator invites participants to bring a deeper awareness, expression and form to the wisdom of the body. Individuals will also be encouraged to develop their kinesthetic awareness, empathy, mindfulness and a sense of embodied presence as they explore the relationship between the creative, psychological and sacred dimensions of their experience through bodily expression.


Bio Profile:








Brinda Jacob-Janvrin is contemporary dancer/choreographer with more than 20 years of performing experience. A qualified counsellor, Brinda has been working extensively with movement therapy over the last 10 years. She is currently a member of the IEATA (International Expressive Art Therapy Association), AMC (Authentic Movement Community) and CMTAI (Creative Movement Therapy Association of India). Brinda is also the Founder and Managing Trustee for the Studio for Movement Arts and Therapies Trust, which was created in January 2011, with the following vision “To offer creatively alive spaces and practices to nurture and catalyse self-inquiry, expression and integration for individuals and communities".

One of the main projects of the Trust, the FECAT - Foundation Course in Expressive and Creative Arts, was born out of the need for trained expressive and creative art therapists in India. Conceptualised by Brinda Jacob-Janvrin, the FECAT programme aims to train participants to use different art media in therapeutic relationships with children, adolescents & adults in different settings.




Preetha Ramasubramanian


Curriculum:

Psychopathology, Counselling skills and Ethics

The 5 day module will teach you to set goals that are client centered and to work with different kinds of population. The skills that will be taught will include movement metaphors, using play, importance of creativity, techniques of mirroring & attunement and will extend to using LMA in sessions. The psychodynamic theories will be taught with case studies to get a deeper understanding. the topics will cover transference, object relations, attachment theories etc. a lot of emphasis will be given on the ethical usage of conducting the sessions like boundary setting, using touch, and confidentiality. during this a lot of practical movement experiences that has a theoretical backing will be explored.


Bio profile:

Preetha Ramasubramanian did her MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy and graduated with a distinction from Goldsmiths College, University of London. As a DMP she gained broad exposure in the UK working in different settings such as forensic psychiatric unit, special & mainstream schools and facilitated workshops for the elderly.
She founded Kinesthetics – DMP and counseling center, where she works with varied population. She also works as a supervisor / consultant / guest lecturer for various educational institutions, health care setups and in the corporate sector. She is one of the trainers in the 1 year Diploma in EAT course, Chennai, from the time of its inception. She is also one of the advisory board members of CMTAI and is also a trainer at the CMT course conducted by CMTAI and Artsphere (Pune).

Curriculum:

Research & Report Writing

This module focuses on improving the participants’ knowledge of documenting their work during the internship period. It aims at enhancing their research abilities and helps them improve their skills as a movement therapy facilitator. With a strong understanding of qualitative research and artistic inquiry, the participants will be equipped to document and submit a report of their internship at the end of the course.

Students will understand the importance of developing research methodologies and techniques in arts-based therapies (ABT). We will also explore how research deepens our practice therefore contributing to the further development of arts based therapies. Maintaining progress reports of sessions will also give students an insight into how effective our artistic interventions are with clients, and we will discuss how to broaden and strengthen our research skills to track our progress with children and adults with therapeutic needs. 
It will be an experiential session taking the participants through a research report and the stages involved in research while exploring ABT interventions. We will go through the APA research format and discuss past research findings and reports published in the field. We will also be looking at a meta-analysis of the research conducted by dance therapy practitioners during the past courses in Dance therapy. 


Bio profile:

Anubha Doshi, is the Founder Director of Artsphere, Pune a Dancer, Clinical Psychologist, Art Based Therapist and Reiki Master. She is an associate member of the ADTA (American Dance Therapy Association) and CID (International Dance Council) France. She is on the advisory board of CMTAI (Creative Movement Therapy Association of India) and is the Editor of the CMTAI Indian Magazine of Dance/Movement therapy. She is on the Board of studies of the psychology department, Mira College, Pune.

Her practice is unique as she explores the connection between DMT and Mindfulness born out of her study of the Buddhist psychology at the Pune University. She is also the course director of the foundation course: Dance Therapy in Pune.
